WE ARE EMK FOUNDATION
A 501(c)(3) public charity established in the US to support Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation and other non-profit emergency care organizations in line with our mission.

THE SITUATION
Emergency care serves a key function within health care systems by providing an entry point to health care and by decreasing morbidity and mortality. Although primarily focused on evaluation and treatment for acute conditions, emergency care also serves as an important locus of provision for preventive care with regard to injuries and disease progression.
Despite its important and increasing role, however, emergency care has frequently been overlooked in the discussion of healthcare systems and delivery platforms in many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) e.g. Kenya. Because of this, many LMICs suffer the highest rates of mortality from acute injuries, as well as from the acute complications of a range of other infectious and chronic diseases.
Over half of these deaths could be addressed by the
implementation of emergency care systems in these countries.
KENYA IS IN NEED OF

TOLL FREE NUMBER
There is no single toll-free
ambulance access
number (e.g. 911) or a
public ambulance system
in the country

DESIGNATED DEPARTMENT
Many hospitals lack
purposefully built
emergency departments
to stabilise acutely ill and
injured patients

EMERGENCY TRAINING
Most healthcare workers
providing emergency
care in LMICs lack
specific training in
emergency care

HEALTH POLICY
There are no specific
policies and guidelines
on emergency care in
many LMICs
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to be the financial catalyst for the Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation
and other non-profit emergency care organizations to safeguard every life, every time, everywhere by:
Improving patient experience and outcomes across the emergency healthcare system in LMICs.
Raising awareness and fostering advancements in the development of localized emergency healthcare in LMICs through education and research
Working closely with local governments and other stakeholders to deliver cost-effective universal emergency
care in LMICs.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Currently, we are working to meet a need far greater than our capacity. Our operations run almost entirely off of volunteer personnel and donations. Our fundraising efforts are aimed at sustaining and expanding the activities and projects of the Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation.

100% of your donation will go directly to strengthening emergency care in LMICs through:
Funding strategic infrastructure projects so public emergency care centres can offer timely, accessible and quality lifesaving emergency care.
Supporting engagements between local governments and stakeholders to develop the necessary emergency care policies and guidelines.
CONTRIBUTE
Our goal is to raise $100,000 annually.
With your support, we can build sustainable systems to ensure that when
emergencies happen, care is there.
Donate to our life-saving work today!
